Week 2: Exhibition Concept Brainstorm


As soon as we got our group sorted, we began brainstorming for possible exhibition concept that we can present.

From our artist statement, we were initially thinking about presenting personal works. But as advised by the lecturers, we should look at relating our major projects into the exhibition to avoid doubling work over the course of semester two. We looked at our major projects and tried looking for connection that we can use as a common theme. It was a bit tricky at first because all projects have a vast difference.

We also began delegating individual task for the group. Cay and myself (Nicole) took the role of curators. Angelique and David were exhibiting artist and Michael took charge of branding.

Invitations

The private invitations for this event were straight forward but so important to us. As we wanted all our private invitees to attend we got our invites printed on high quality silver card.

Location

Before we locked down the Roxburgh St Art location we looked at other possible options. After seeing a post from another student in the exhibition paper Facebook group I emailed bill.giannakakis@gmail.com to find out more about the space above Glassons. I was not able to get a response therefore we sticked to the Roxburgh. From the images shared on Facebook, I liked how the space was wider even though it is only one room.  Photo from Facebook group  5 Roxburgh St Mount Victoria  The Roxburgh St Art was our initial location that we found more suited to our original concept of Behind the Façade, we decided to stick with this as it meets our price range how close it is and we like that it is not completely similar to a white cube gallery space. Before we locked down the space we had a phone call meeting with Denise to discuss what we wanted to do with it as well as set up time for a site visit. We kept in touch mostly through emails.
